A beautifully preserved wooden building, housing an eclectic selection of books and periodicals for all tastes. The collection is modest but given the lack of resources during the 40 year economic crisis, the librarians have done a wonderful job. The atmosphere is quiet and studious, and there wasn't a pc terminal in sight..it was like stepping back 30 years, in the best possible sense. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. The National Library of Guyana is the legal deposit and copyright library for Guyana. Unlike many national libraries, it is also a public lending library and the headquarters of Guyana's public library service, with branches extending throughout the country.
