Founded in 1821 as The Mercentile Library of New York, the mission was to provide the workers of New York City a space for education and conversation. Our current Library continues to foster this tradition through award-winning fiction collection, where you can find the newest releases alongside classics, rare books, and speciality collections. Guests will access our member-only spaces, including our Lounge, Reading Room, outdoor Terrace and classrooms. Our Library hours are: Monday to Thursday: 11am-8pm, Friday: 11am-5pm, and Saturday & Sunday: 12pm-5pm. You will be required to exit premises at the end of your visit. This is a library environment intended for quiet work. Phone calls are restricted to a dedicated phone booth with a limit of 20 minutes. Food and drink from the Center of Fiction cafe & bar are welcome, but outside food and drink is not allowed.
